Sheilla Rebecca-Ann Sanon is currently studying Industrial Design as a junior at Appalachian State University. Prior to studying at Appalachian, Sheilla graduated high school with an Associate of Arts degree at the age of sixteen. She then went on to attend the University of South Florida for two years in multidisciplinary studies focusing on writing, education, and business. There she wrote for The Oracle student newspaper and continued writing a fiction novel she completed in the summer of 2014. Sheilla enjoys product research and development, reading medical articles, and traveling. The Industrial Design program has given her the opportunity to grow into her passions. In April 2013, Sheilla presented personal work alongside her peers at the Milan Furniture Fair, the largest trade fair of its kind. She is also an active member of the American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD) and Women in the Home Industries Today (WITHit).
As a self-proclaimed, full-time thinker-upper, Sheilla believes that creativity is best applied when it’s used to help others. She believes in reaching out to the most unreached and underrepresented markets in order to revolutionize the world. It’s this fusion of outreach, psychology, and research that drives her design process. In the future Sheilla looks forward to enjoying entrepreneurial careers that allow her to explore the world and explore solutions for the questions that often go unasked.
Kaitlin Williard is currently a junior at Appalachian State University, where she is studying Industrial Design with a concentration in Product Design, as well as minoring in Apparel Design.
Ever since she could hold a crayon she has been drawing, making, and exploring everything related to the worlds of the visual and physical. Her love affair with design began at the ripe age of 11, when she asked for Adobe Photoshop for Christmas (thanks Mom and Dad!). While most of the other kids were playing video games, she was meticulously trimming, creating filters, and having way too much fun with the stamping tool. From there she became obsessed with creating, using technology as her aid.
Now, she is developing her skills into those to prepare her for a lifetime of making, creating, and helping others through the use of good design. She currently runs two small online businesses, which have taught her many things that classes cannot. Having direct contact with customers has given her experience designing for a client and a deep appreciation for the needs of others.
Kaitlin lives for the feeling of completing a tough project, and being able to see, hold, and feel the results. She is determined to live a life full of projects that span wide and far, helping diverse groups of people with her designs along the way.
